Introduction to Experiment with Light
Following his study of early Friends’ writings, Quaker and theologian Rex Ambler decided to explore the practice he had identified as central to the early Quaker way and try it out on a problem he had been troubled by in his personal life. The insights he gained as a result led him to share with others both his experience and the process by which he had arrived at his new-found understanding. Others began to take up the practice themselves with growing enthusiasm! Experiment with Light, as it is now called is now widely used in a variety of contexts by Friends all over the world. As well as its use for personal and group insight and growth the simple but dynamic process, and what it can reveal, also helps us to understand experientially what it was that made early Friends so sure, so centred, so willing to suffer privations to keep alive their faith.
