Copyright Statement
This website is operated for and on behalf of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) Yearly Meeting of Aotearoa New Zealand, herein referred to as “we”, “us”, “our”, or “The Society”. “This site” means the Internet domain quakers.nz
and its future replacements. “Re-use” includes copying, adapting, distributing, broadcasting, and making available.
Our use of material
Images of People
We believe we have sought and obtained approval from the subjects of all images displayed on our website, but if you wish to withdraw your permission (or if we have made a mistake) we will happily remove your image upon request.
Notices and Complaints
We take copyright seriously, so if you write to us politely we will do our best to resolve any infringement promptly.
But be very sure of your ground before threatening us, as we also take perjury and vexatious claims seriously.
All entities involved in the operation of this website are residents or citizens of New Zealand, and the hosting infrastructure is physically located in New Zealand, so we are fully subject to New Zealand law — but only New Zealand law — in all matters relating to copyright. Before you make an assertion of copyright infringement, you should familiarize yourself with our rights under New Zealand copyright law.
Other Issues
If you have believe that we have infringed copyright with any material on the site, or have any other concerns, please contact us and we will take steps to set it right.
Please note that we are not responsible for the content of any unauthorized copies or facsimilies of this site.
Your use of material
Creative Commons
Almost all text on this website has been written by us or for us, and we are happy to see it distributed to the wider world. We therefore permit re-use of text from all public pages, under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) licence, except those pages that carry notices specifying otherwise. (Such notices may permit re-use on different terms, or may prohibit it entirely.)
Restrictions
We affirm our rights over this site, and all whole or partial facsimilies of it, including any that you hold. You must not re-use anything if it's not directly from quakers.nz
or from a copy that is already in your personal control.
We assert copyright on the graphical design of our website to prevent others from impersonating us.
We assert "compilation copyright" on our database of Members and Attenders; you must not copy any substantive portion of it. You must not publish, distribute, or make available any part of it at whatsoever.
Many of the image on this site are of living persons, who have graciously allowed us to use their likeness on our website, and so we cannot give you permission to re-use those.
Some images are "stock footage" that we have licensed for our own use, and which likewise you may not copy.
Some pages are password-protected, because their content is sensitive. Some material on those pages might still be OK to copy, distribute, or republish, but this will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
You are welcome to seek our permission to copy, adapt, or reuse anything else, but unless we grant you a licence, all uses not covered by the creative commons statement above, or by fair dealing, are strictly prohibited.
Fair Dealing
We consider these activities (amongst others) to be "fair dealing" and therefore not requiring our permission:
- Copy scheduling and location information into your diary, for meetings that you reasonably anticipate attending;
- Using a Friend's phone number or email address to initiate a contact with them, and to keep incidental copies of these that appear in your "sent" email or outgoing phone call logs.
- Copying and adapting a role description from another Meeting when creating a similar role in your Meeting.
- Copying and distributing links to pages, with page titles but without other page contents.
- By way of highlighting a problem with a page, sending a copy of the whole or any part of it to
- any person is currently appointed to maintain it, or
- any person who has previously modified it, or
- our privacy officer, or
- our website technical services team, or
- our website oversight committee.
- Make copies of any text, for personal study, provided that it does not contain personal information.
We are happy to make reasonable additions to this list. Please let us know if you think we've missed anything.
Internal Use
Anything you do in an official capacity on behalf of the society or any of its constituent Meetings is deemed to be an act by the society itself, and therefore not restricted by our copyright. (However you must still abide by our other policies.)
Copyright in any material you create in an official capacity is treated under the “work for hire” doctrine, even if you are an unpaid volunteer, and automatically vested in us or one of our constituent Meetings, whichever body established the role that you're conducting.
Your contributions to our website
By contributing to our website, you agree to licence all text to us under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) licence - the same one we use when permitting other people to re-use the public text, as above. You also agree to licence all other material to us on terms that allow us unrestricted use on this site.
