Whanganui Educational Settlement Trust (WEST)

The Whanganui Educational Settlement Trust (WEST) is made up of representatives of the Quaker Monthly (area) Meetings together with 3 representatives from the Quaker Settlement and a Secretary.

The Trust was set up by Yearly Meeting in 1975.  The Trust owns the land and buildings of the Quaker Settlement which is on land previously associated with the NZ Friends School that ran in Wanganui from 1920-1970.   The Quaker Settlement is a unique intentional community.

The purposes of the Trust are; to provide housing and other facilities for a community of like minded people that hold to Quaker values, to provide educational facilities for study and learning for Quakers in Aotearoa/New Zealand and to provide facilities for conferences of an educational or religious nature.

WEST is also responsible for the annual Seminar programme at the Quaker Settlement. The programme is planned by the Quaker Learning and Spiritual Development Committee in conjunction with the WEST Settlement Seminar Committee.
