Summer Gathering 2018-19

Friday, 28 December 2018 - Friday, 04 January 2019

Thisis a historical record of the event held and the details. About 120 friends attended a most successful event.

Join us in Taranaki to reunite with Quakers from around New Zealand for a summer break offering stimulating activities, intellectual challenge and spiritual nurturing. There will be spaces for quiet relaxation as well as opportunities to be active. We welcome young and old and aim to cater to a wide range of needs and interests.

We especially encourage young families and young people to come: children under 18 years are free. There are lots of different activities for them to engage in.  As well as swimming and games on site the high-wire activity centre will be open for adventure sessions with trained supervisors.

The theme this year is Treading Lightly and we ask that Quakers will think how their presentations can fit the theme to give us a wide view of what Treading Lightly means in different spheres of our lives. We are also planning to introduce Te Reo as a major daily activity for those interested in practising or learning conversational Maori, pronunciation and tikanga. Wifi will be available but cellphone coverage is patchy.

Accommodation is mostly in bunk rooms with ensuite toilet and shower for each unit. There are 8 lower bunks per unit. 3 chalets sleeping 4 will be reserved for young families or those with speciasl needs. Kauri Lodge has 2 single and twin rooms with shared ablutions. Email if you have special needs. The venue is having several additions this year with 4 new ensuite bedrooms upstairs, a new dining hall and covered areas.

For those who need more privacy or better disabled access, there is the option of a local motel just 10kms away. Book separately at White Eagle Motel 87B Rata Street Inglewood phone 06 7568252. These are drive-to-the-door ground floor units with 1 or 2 bedrooms giving the opportunity to share with others to keep costs down.  Book early. If staying overnight off site, register as a day visitor to the Summer Gathering, all meals included.

The menu at Summer Gathering will be vegan based for everyone, with additional dairy options included in the fee. Meat servings are additional and may be ordered by pre-purchasing meat vouchers when registering. Fruit will be plentiful.

We wish everyone to enjoy an inspirational holiday in Taranaki and look forward to seeing you there.
