Quakers supportive of Student Climate Rallies
Quakers participated in Climate Rallies up and down New Zealand in the support of world wide student action. The peaceful rallies were the initiative of high school students who went on strike from school to draw public attention to their call for political leadership, business initiatives and action by all grownups to end unsustainable practices. Helen Kingston and Albie Burgers attended the Golden Bay event on 27 September 2019 shown here in a photo by Fill Burgers. There were about 200 in the march from school and at the event in town, adults having been specifically invited. There was an amazing speech by a Year 10 student which was subsequently printed in the local community paper, with a lot of coverage of the whole event. Nobody asked us about Quakers, even although it was on the poster! but I think some did notice.
