1961-62 Annual Report of Wellington Young Friends
THE ANNUAL REPORT OF WELLINGTON YOUNG FRIENDS
The year 1961-62 has been very successful: the numbers have increased considerably and we seem to have done much more than in the previous years.
Beginning with the more serioius side: we have finished the Growth of Conscience in December, on which older Friends gave us talks both on this subject and the current topic, this being the study of various religions, Christian and non-Christian. We hope later in the year to visit some of the discussed churches. When Gwen Catchpool was in Wellington she gave us a talk on "Being a Friend". A spirited dispute, which led on from this excellent talk, unfortunately got rather off the point.
As many Friends know W. Y.Fs have adopted a little Greek boy Gregoire (pronounced Urius) Altimissis, and are rasing money for him by working bees among which the most unusual being the excavating of a basement. We have had very lively discussion on the subject of the C. N. D. Easter march and were well represented on it.
There have been socials, dances, swimming expeditions, parties going to plays and concerts, and a hike early this year (at which the tea was forgotten).
We felt that the Summer Gathering at Waikanae was a great success and promoted relationships with the older Friends as well as with those of our own age.
Young Friends are beginning to feel that we are more satisfied with the full Meeting for Worship than our own half meeting/discussion, and more of us are now going for the whole hour.
