Whakatu Nelson Quaker Meeting
The Whakatu Nelson Meeting gathers for Meeting for Worship every Sunday at 10am, 30 Nile Street.
Friends in Motueka meet on the second Sunday of the month at 10am, Family Service Centre, 27 Talbot Street.
The meeting, grounded in silence, lasts an hour and is followed by reflections (when you can speak about insights or revelations received during the meeting that didn’t make it to ‘ministry’, rather than a time for discussion.) ‘Ministry’ is a message spoken by someone who is prompted to break the silence of the meeting. At the end of reflections we share notices of Quaker activities and other actions we support in our city and region, before a time of community over morning tea.

All are welcome at a Meeting for Worship without any commitment. If you decide to make Meeting your spiritual home, we offer a safe, loving community. We aim to help one another live better lives, through spiritual nurture and friendship.
Our Meeting has a concern for peace and social justice. Members are active in • Peace • Climate Change • Child Poverty • Housing • The Living Wage • Support for Palestine • Commemorating & celebrating Parihaka & • upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Every year we hold Peace Vigils on Anzac Day and around Hiroshima & Nagasaki Days. Our Meeting is a signatory to the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum Charter. We donate annually to a local low decile school. We are active in support of Palestinian freedom. We host parakuihi (breakfast) after the Dawn Service every Parihaka Day, Nov. 5th, for upwards of 70 people. Learn more about how Quakers in Aotearoa put their faith into action here.
