Each month - most months - one of us names a topic for discussion; our last was "Are we are a Religious Society, or a Society of Friends". We included Christian Quakers, a religious humanist, a secular humanist . . . . Our conclusion was that how we each conceive of spirit, God, or goodness was less relevant than the fact that we are deliberate in our choice to belong to our Meeting and to our Friendship on the basis of love. We seek to be loving to each other. We figured this distinguishes us from the local squash club, and our intention is a spiritual one.
