This page is for newcomers who want to get more involved with Quakers Aotearoa. You’re welcome here.
Quakers Aotearoa New Zealand is a spiritual community rooted in silent worship, shared values, and action for peace and justice. Whether you are simply curious, seeking spiritual depth, or looking for ways to make a difference, there are many ways to engage — at your own pace.
Ways to Get Involved
Attend a Meeting
Quaker meetings are open to everyone. We gather in silence, with space for reflection, listening, and shared presence. Learn more.
Attend a local meeting in person
Join an online meeting from anywhere. If you are looking for an online meeting, these are held weekly in Mt Eden, Auckland, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Details are on each Meeting's page.

Connect with a local initiative
Many Quakers connect through shared concerns and practical action. Mostly, this is via each local Quaker Meeting. Learn more about Quaker commitments:

Community and service projects — these are unique to each Meeting, e.g. Nelson Friends recently created tote bags to raise money for people in Palestine. Mt Eden Meeting supports prisoners at Mt Eden Prison. Many Meetings hold Peace Vigils on Anzac Day, and Hiroshima and Nagasaki Days.
Jan and Jan are making tote bags from recycled material to raise money for Palestine, as part of their meeting's contribution.
Young Friends' gatherings — connect with peers in thoughtful discussion and service.

Some Quakers are very publicly involved in peace movements. Others take quieter paths. You may prefer a sewing bee to a large demonstration or even a peace vigil. All of these are valid expressions of care. No one is expected to do everything — or anything that doesn’t feel right for them.
"I think Quakers do amazing work [in peace and social justice] but they also take time to pause and listen and that creates a really healthy balance." Ashley.
Acting for the Earth, guided by our faith
Friends in Aotearoa New Zealand recognise climate change as a profound moral and spiritual challenge. The climate crisis threatens life, justice, and peace — values that lie at the heart of the Quaker faith. We are called to respond with integrity, courage, and love, working for a world where people and planet can flourish together.
"I help run a climate action newsletter with a selection of actions anyone can take right now" Cathy, Student.
